Sveriges resultat var som högst under år 2000 då mätningen först började och sjönk sedan successivt fram till 2012. Därefter vände resultaten uppåt i samtliga tre ämnen under 2015 och i senaste årets mätning fortsatte den positiva utvecklingen.

Projektets mål är att testa och utvärdera skolbarns prestationer runtomkring i världen, för att kunna åstadkomma bättre pedagogiska metoder och bättre resultat.

(Scores drawing from LLECE were consistently closer to PISA-D results than those drawing on other sources—see Table 1.) 2019-12-03 Figure I.4.8 shows a strong correlation between the results of the reading test for 4th-grade students in PIRLS 2011 and the results of the PISA 2018 reading assessment amongst 15-year-old students (variations in PIRLS results can account for about 72 % of the variation in PISA reading results across countries and economies). The latest PISA scores reinforce the results from the 2019 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) test of math and reading, which U.S. fourth and eighth graders take every two years.

Preparations for this test are underway with participants from 37 OECD members and likely 50+ non-members involved. PISA 2025 The OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) examines what students know in reading, mathematics and science, and what they can do with what they know. It provides the most comprehensive and rigorous international assessment of student learning outcomes to date. Results from PISA indicate the quality and equity of learning outcomes attained around the world, and allow educators and policy makers to learn from the policies and practices applied in other countries.
